year:1992 make:saturn model:sl coupe engine size: 1.9 DOHC The car would start. While in park u could rev the engine up just fine. Let it sit and run for about 5 mins, put it in drive and it will cut out, spit and spudder and the go dead. While it is running u could put it in reverse it runs fine. I replaced the fuel filter. Then I checked the ignition module with a meter and it was fine. So I pulled the plug wires off the coil pac. Number 1 on the coil had a white powder on it. I sanded it off and tested the coils with a meter and they were fine. So I replaced the plugs and wires. It started fine, I drove it very hard and fast for about 30 mins. and it ran fine. I let it sit for about 30 min. and tried to start the car. It cranked up, I hit the gas it poped and died. Now it won't start. If I let it sit over nite it will start and run until I hit the gas and it goes dead and then it won't start.

Need to catch it when it won't start at all and see what's missing, spark, or fuel. Use starting fluid to prime and if that reacts for a few seconds it's a fuel issue. Check pressure KOEO and if running with it running too. See how long it holds pressure when shut off. Check for spark at at spark plug too while down. There are other things but most troubles are one of those two for a comlete no start, T

When running it has 35 to 40psi. and when KOEO it has the same pressure. It has spark at the plugs. I started it up rev the motor up to around 2000 rpm and held it there. It started to cut out about 5mins later so I tried to keep it running. When it started to spit back white smoke came out of the tail pipe and out of the throttle body when it quiet running. This makes me think that the filters on the injectors could be clogged or could one of the coil packs be getting hot and loosing fire. Thank you for ur help.

Those tests really don't mean anything because they weren't performed at the moment the problem was present. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
