'94 Jetta GL III Starter Problem Sign In

The trouble started when the lock cylinders on both front doors came out. Have found the wires that 'manually' lock and unlock the car so the alarm system should be reset. Won't start! So, I replaced the starter and battery. When I turn the key in the ignition, all the dash lights come on, the steering wheel unlocks and the radio comes on but it is like there is no power getting to the starter. Now when I roll the car off, it will jump and run just fine. The ignition turns the car off, like normal, and all other systems work fine. There is a code, I guess it is, when I turn the key that blinks in the odometer area. It says 'in 02', or that's what it looks like. We have even been told to engage the seat belt and that does not work either. HELP!!!!!Frown

is there or was there ever an alarm system on this car? this can cause the problem.
did you "find" the wires to manually unlock the doors; or did a pro? it is possible that one of the wires is incorporated in the starter circuit. it is possible also the if you found these wires under the dash and/or near the steering column that you have inadvertantly disconnected the "starter engage" or "S" terminal wire from the ignition switch or have disconnected it somehow from the starter between the switch and starter or starter relay. i would venture a guess that you have somehow disabled the starter circuit. the first thing to do will be to retrace your steps when locating the lock wires and inspect everything near them or where you were to be sure you did not disconnect something and forgot to hook it back up. i've seen this alot and it almost always turns out to be something that the person working on it forgot about. Retrace everything you did twice or three times i'll bet you find it. good luck, rick
