Hello Everyone, Last thursday my 1995 Buick Lesabre Custom (122,000+ miles) started acted crazy last thursday. Everytime I touched the brake the voltage/temp lights came on, which made the check engine light come on and off.

(***ran good when check engine light was on, ran rough and bucked when it was off. Also sometimes ran good when it was off?! weird huh!)

that saturday while driving the car stalled at a stop sign as the "Voltage/ Temp/ Check Engine Lights" flickered rapidly! I went home to grab pliers to unhook the battery but 20-30 mins later I returned and the car started right up and I got it home in the garage with no problems.

I was tolled it was the alternator, so I bought one from a used part store and it was put on. The car sounds like it wants to start up but doesn't.

I had the car towed to a shop, and there they couldn't read the computer, The man working on the car said it may be the fuel pump and he replaced it. But IT WASN'T THE PROBLEM!

Now I am very irritated with the car, he said it may be a short...but where??? I don't know...I am on wits in with this car and I want to get rid of it now, but it is currently my family's only means of transportation.

I know many people have problems with this car, what did you do to fix it....Someone PLEASE HELP!!!

The first bit of advice I would give you is to find another shop. No tech that's worth anything would change a fuel pump without confirming it to be bad. That's not a mistake any good tech would make. there is a procedure to isolate the source of the problem and he should know that.

Here is the procedure to narrow it down


All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be test during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment.
If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money.



Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for.

These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause.

1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on.


2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on.


3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off.

Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out,
you will know which system is having the problem.
