hello, my 95 jeep cherokee sport's back two doors won't open for some reason. i have electric locks and the front ones didn't open earlier but now they do (don't get it??) so it's just the back two that are still relentless. not opening at all even when i flip the switch manually. it's electrical i'm sure? just wondering what others think? jeep people who've maybe experienced something similar. if there's an easy solution, where to go what to do? i'm a poor mother who can't go anywhere right now because i can't put my son in the car. frustrating :( sarah

If you manually unlock the rear doors, the doors won't open at all. My question is have you tried to open them from the outside door handles or just the inside? If they open only from the outside, the child safety locks may be engaged preventing the inner door handles from operating. If they don't open at all, and the door locks are definitely unlocked, it seems that something let go inside the door panel. The only thing that contradicts this scenario is that both doors went at the same time. I haven't seen this problem from Jeeps. Start with the outside door pulls and post back to let us know. I will try to research this further for you if that doesn't work. Steve

okay, here are some thoughts...first of all thank you for replying. okay, the doors are all tempermental. opening/not opening. i have to really mess with it. i def think it's electric (boogie woogie woogie woogie, ((i had to)) anyway...here is what i just thought about. my son is 6 months and i just started letting him play and drool all over my keys which has the lock thingy remote on it. could his drool be causing a malfunction? the only reason maybe not because when i manually switch up the lock on the door it still doesn't make the back doors any easier to open. oh man i'm frustrated. the good news is i can always manually unlock the door with the key, bad news can't do it to the back door. ugh. i understand what you're saying about child safety? do 95 jeep cherokee even have child safety locks? the back doors def don't open at ALL from the inside, not even the click sound and feeling that it could be stuck. from the outside it seems as though maybe the doors are stuck b/c they have that feel. you know the feel i'm talking about? but furthermore the front doors are giving me some trouble too. (unless i manually turn the key in it) ahhhhhhhhhhh!

Hi, I just checked the NHTSA website and there is an investigation ongoing about the door locks on these vehicles intermittently working. They didn't give much info but at least we know this isn't just your vehicle having this problem. You could call the Jeep dealer and see if there are any service bulletins on this problem. They may have a revised door lock assembly or have tips on how to fix it. That's what service bulletins are all about. My guess is that the door panels will have to come off so we can see if the linkages are moving freely and check the door latch mechanisms to ensure proper operation. It could be something as simple as spraying the latch mechanism with a silicone spray. But, like I said, the door panels on the inside need to come off to gain access to them. You could do this job yourself as you will only need a couple of basic hand tools. You could go to AutoZone and purchase a "zip button" tool so you can pry the plastic internal clips off that hold the panel in place. This tool prevents the buttons from breaking when removing the door panel. Decide if you want to take this task on and post back. We are here to help so if you get stuck or have any questions give us a shout. Steve
