96 jeep cherokee help~ Sign In

4.0 staight 6

engine will not fire.

It cranks over but will not fire. I changed the coil pick up plate under the distributor cap, replaced coil and still has no spark. I think it something electrical.
does anyone have any clues where to start checking.

All the fuses look good as well and battery is up to par.
the engine turns over...but does not start!

help!
any suggestions greatly appreciated!

This could be any number of things. I would start by getting a test on your starter done. Could be, solenoid, contacts, brushes?? anything. Get it checked.

I would look to the crank sensor. SInce it is turning over OK, the starter circuit is probably OK. The sensor is a pain to change, but it is a good possibility. It tells PCM when to fire the spark to make engine run. No crank sensor, no spark, no start.
