4 cyl. situation is.. truck has sat for two years but had no previous issues, truck got started and ran at least once a week...until..rats were discovered nesting under hood (found out from guys at junkyard if you just pop the hood animals will never stay, word to the wise!) got rid of rats or field mice or whatever they were, SE GA has many creatures, but not before they used 9/10 of sound damper on underside of hood to build nest. Even after this, truck would still start, turning the key became hit or miss like rats chewed wires. There is some evidence of this, BUT from what i see when they did naw on any wires as soon as they hit copper they stopped and this was only in 4 locations which i've repaired the very minor damage with elec. tape but to no avail. Traced all over for damage to wires unseen, removed alternator, took starter loose( for the life of me i can't get starter out short of unbolting engine and lifting!!?) still don't see anything. would like to take starter to shop to test but can't get it free of crankcase, although don't think starter is to blame. I would like to check relays, ignition switch, etc., but i don't know how, before I completely remove wiring harness which cost mucho deniro to replace and is a likely culpert, I want to eliminate all possible options. Right now got brand new batt. and when key is turned all i get is a click, no clicking, so I feel maybe something like a relay is keeping power from starter, got any ideas?? and if anyone knows a trick to getting that dang starter out , pleasssseee

yes, i tried that plus i removed the stabilizer bar that's right there next to the exhaust pipe, still i can't get the a$$ end of the starter out of the transfercase. i'm thinking, maybe if i put a jack under the block it might give me that 2in that i need to point it down but even so where its at right now the front is tight to the motor mount. any thoughts on how or where to place the jack??

I change them without jacking the motor.
