'97 Nissan Altima Breaklights staying on Sign In

Hi,

I drive a 1997 Nissan Altima with 160,000 miles and who's engine size is a four cylinder/2.4 liter... its break lights are on at all times (even with the car off.) The only way that I can turn them off is by taking out the fuse.

I've tried replacing the brakelight switch under the break pedal, I've also topped off my brake fluid in the case that the pressure was too low to trigger the breaklight switch.

I'm not quite sure where I should go from here and would be grateful for any further instructions

I appreciate the time and consideration.

If you look closely at where the brake light switch goes, there used to be a rubber bumper that the brake light switch would strike against. I'll bet yours is gone. You can get a new one at the dealer or you can improvise. I have been known to glue a penny there when nothing else was available.

Do you think maybe he could get one off of a junkyard car, or do you think it will just break trying to get it off?

Why would anyone crawl under the dash of a nasty junkyard car for an item that sells for $3 new that won't be any good anyway?
