98 Chevy Cavalier ETS OFF Sign In

I took the car in for a suspected oil leak and was told it was a transmission gasket, so they replaced that and flushed the
system. As soon as I got in the car to leave, I noticed the ETS OFF light on. I took it back and they can't find the
problem. The computer is saying all it okay, but they don't know why the ETS has been shut off. Any ideas? They even want
to claim it's not their doing and is just some fluke. It was working fine when I took it in though.
Any help would be appreciated. They spent 90 minutes on it and have no clue.

Re: 98 Chevy Cavalier ETS OFF Sign In

With a scan tool and someone that understands the system and how to work the scan tool they should be able to figure this out, because most of the testing is done right through the scanner.
Scanners are not just for reading codes.
By going into OBDII controls you should be able to command the computer to turn the light on and off, that’s to see if the computer is still capable of performing this request. There are a number of other tests as well, but like I said they are mostly done through the scanner.
About the only thing you could try on your own would be to disconnect the ETS switch, if the light goes out, then it’s likely (maybe) a shorted switch.
Sorry I wasn’t of more help.
Dan.
