99-mercury-cougar-2.5 L-157,000 miles Ok so the problems started when i tried to jump start my car with cables and i think i accidentally mismatched the wires to the battery and my car wouldn't start so i took it to a mechanic and he changed the fuel pump and that didn't fix it so the mechanic said the alarm was disabling the car because it didn't recognize the key so he had to reset the alarm and make a new key, well that got the car running but there's still a problem with the transmission its stuck in second gear the mechanic said it was a problem with the wiring but i couldn't get it fixed because i didn't have the money. so my problem is the license plate lights wont turn on anymore i tried changing the light bulbs but still nothing so i tried changing the fuse but when i did the fuse immediately burned out i tried 4 fuses but it just burned them out right away also, and yes i was using the right fuses. so i hope you can help thanks.

I know that it’s just the license plate lights and you’ve done the basics as in trying bulbs but I’m going to suggest taking the car in and have it repaired. Depending on what options that came on this vehicle; it could be a number of things causing the fuse to blow. I don’t know why they make this; what use to be so simple of an item, so complicated but they do? I guess it’s because they can and people just lover their creature features? Back-up warning systems, daytime running lights, automatic on/off lights; you name it and if the manufacturer thinks they can sell it; they’ll wire it to the vehicle. Dan. Canadian "EH"
