This is my Moms car. 40,000 miles and nice, besides the job that a remote starter guy left me in 2008 or so. She said to forget it because she never drives at night. Since then, when moving the HB switch, the HBs don't come on and the lows shut off. A cousin and I looked at whatever fuses, relays we could find and gave up. I think there are more but doubt these could affect the car this way, unless you guys think otherwise. The remote starter guy definitely did something.

I am lucky to have a good auto shop in town. The guy had me try some bulbs even thou I never saw lights act this way, ever, or due to a bulb. They are going to look at it Wed.

Its a Continental. I went looking under the lower dash covers and found the unmounted start gizmo and moved it around with no luck. A guy flipped the signal/ HB arm a few times and it acted differently. With the car off, the switch to HB would do nothing and LB would remain on, but with us both there, it remained on LB without going black, while running. HB Indicator light has worked fine all the while. Maybe that arm is messed up and maybe during the ignition wires tap for remote. I will concentrate on this tomorrow and try to figure it myself. For now.

If you tested that fuse using a test light, then you likely have a problem with the lighting control module.

Might be worth looking at the high beam relay too.

The LCM should be under the dash to the right of the steering column.

I checked one side on one of the light plugs, at the bulb and saw 14v with lowbeams. The center connection was untouched and the other side had 1.5 v until switching on HBs and then, it went to 0.

That relay was the first thing checked. All other bulbs on car are working

That just proves what we already knew, no high beam power.

Did you use a test light at the fuse as I suggested?

If you have power there find pin #1 (Brn wire) at the 12 pin plug of the LCM and look for ground when high beams are selected.

If none found go the pin #6 of the 22 wire plug (ppl/lt blue) and look for power when High beams are selected.

Yes I realized that after posting, Thought maybe the voltage change would tell you something. I don't have a test light but will get one. I am going out with a meter now and check power at fuse and take those steps

When buying a test light you should get one that uses LED lights and can read power or ground if you're going to be testing around modules. You can burn one out very easily using the wrong type of light.

You can't test that module with a meter.

I think I see that LCM and think I will leave it for at least today. Looks impossible to get at any wires. I will get that tester. I did find 14v at one side of #7 fuse to ground and nothing testing between them.

You should be able to remove the LCM from the bracket and lower it for better access.

I will bring it down tomorrow and probably leave it. They always shock me with a great bill. Thanks for the tips and I may continue after seeing them tomorrow.

Suggestions for you greasy one: It's older, we know that and so what? With these or any if a relay or part was tried, relays especially save the old one that didn't solve anything by default it's a good one!

If you look back or can print the diagram of the power box with all the relays and fuses it should show that under the cover of the thing too if not bring it.

Other with just relays on these just "1,2,3 + quit" leave you stranded - MANY. Did a lot of road calls and carried the damn relays. I'll never know why for sure just when it worked for a few months (that stinks) know that solved it and move on.

Save the stuff that was highly likely that new didn't fix you may want it some other day.

Plain other now > Working on my own expect A/C (all original parts from new except boosts) is unheard of a 1989 still use it and count on it! A fight this time with A/C works fine then quits totally just now ongoing it got too cold out for me to be sure so again today.

I had spares marked good with a silver Sharpie when my own or host of others did some fool thing on the road, road calls! I'll get it now just waiting if not true warmth outside testing isn't real conclusive in this case.

All that dribble just for a strong suggestion if you want older anything like this low mile or not at least have the few so common items and mark them.

The "Now Why" is new stuff is highly junk or bad out of the box damnit!

One last trick if you get stuck is take the plastic end of a screwdriver so no damage but a decent whack on housing of relays while the item should be working and more than 1/2 of them will snap to and work right in front of you! Now (same silver Sharpie) mark it bad maybe keep only to match up for another.
IDK, to me it save tons of time to mark known stuff then the time to hook up tests that full power goes thru a relay for fuse if fancy ones that just one marked go on and look somewhere else you know you a close or got it all by your own info or it takes bucks you know for another it takes them time too so give those shops and techs their due they suffer the same issues to nail it.

Good luck sport,
Tom

Oh I try to save anything good. Someone on FB, just yesterday, posted how the lids from grated cheese jars screw right on a standard Bell jar. Now its got a lid, which is no big deal, but the holes fit a straw. I had some saved. As to relays and fuses, I just swapped them out to test. This job is getting done by pros. They are getting a used LCM sent from 2 States away. I think with Mr. H. Time leading me along, I would have got it, but its a gamble. So I learned a little, like this module thing seems like a stupid way to complicate a simple thing.

Well something was changed, maybe a whole module or an individual module in this module, but it works. Thanks for helping.
