I installed a new stereo in our 99 tracker. It works fine. all the speakers and lights. I ended up with 2 wires left over (from the wiring harness that goes to radio) that both have power to them up when I turn on the lights. However the dash lights do not work now. No blown fuses. Do these wires run through to the dash lights some how?

Sorry for the late reply. Can't find those wire colors in the radio or dash light schematics. Positive on the wire colors? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Like DS said, those colors don't match up. I guessed at the right model.....2WD/4WD, 2 different 4 cyls, 2dr/4dr, etc...... & took a quick look at the dimmer diagram and there is a red/yellow wire for power & red/green for ground. Both of those are gang connections for all the lights so just taking the radio out of the circuit shouldn't kill the rest of the lights since it's wired in parallel & not series. Since you have power on both, I'm guessing the red/orange is power & you are just seeing open circuit voltage on the red/black due to all the other loads with power on the same circuit. The dimmer switch controls all those so I would start there. Check your powers & ground if all those are good, then you may have taken out the dimmer switch on the install..... I can't post anything right now but it's a pretty basic diagram.

Those 2 wires I have mentioned only have power to them when I turn the lights on. ??? I have the red yellow as power to the radio.

You would have power on both wires if the circuit is getting 12v. What you are seeing on the ground wire is ocv or open circuit voltage, you can google it for the long version. A quick check would be to get a 2 prong headlight (not a test light), square, round it doesn't matter & ground one prong and the touch the other prong with one of the wires & then the other wire. The light should light up. If touching one of the wires to the light gets all the other lights to come on then that would be your ground wire and you would be dealing with a ground problem. Either a bad dimmer switch or ground wire. I believe the ground wire for the dimmer switch is under the dash on the left side by the junction box, check around there for any loose or broken wires....

Hey DS...Can you post a diagram for the dimmer circuit? I think that may be helpful as well
