Vehicle: 1989 EA Ford Falcon (Australian)
Engine: Injected 4.0L in-line 6cyl
Trans: 5 Speed Manual

112,000miles

The car has been losing current, when a volt test was done on the battery with the engine off was at 12.40V, engine at idle 12.28 and when running hooked to a charger, 12.33.

I replaced the Alternator with a second hand unit I had no improvement. I purchased another second hand unit that had been tested and sold with warranty, however still having pretty much the same issues, except now it's worse. At idle, the Alternator is producing over 13.00, and increasing, but as soon as you rev the engine the current flows the other way with a quick decent in the voltage output. Back to idle, up it comes again and so on.

Motor will run without battery, and while it struggles, it will also runs with low beam on.

Of course if you drive the car with the battery hooked in it is just sucking the power from the battery under revs and it ends up flat quite quickly. Btw, Alternator dash light is staying off, and is functioning fine.

I'm assuming it's a wiring issue, but can anyone point me in the right direction?
