I have a 2000 Chevy tahou Z-71 w/ a 5.7 engine. Everytime its cold outside and the car is cold inside, the blinker flasher clicks like the blinker is on. No lights are blinking outside or inside. If I step on the brake pedal the clicking will stop, release the brake pedal, it will start clicking again. It will keep doing this until the car warms up inside. Any ideas?

There are likely only two things that’ll cause this; the turn/hazard flasher or the turn/hazard switch. Both one if shorting to ground internally will cause this and because it only happens when things are cold it doesn’t give you a whole lot of time for diagnostics. I would try replacing the flasher unit first and see what happens; it is the less expensive and the easier one of the two to replace. Now after saying this; it’s likely the turn/hazard switch, just because there’s more of a chance for something to short in there, due to expansion & contraction. You’ll find the flasher in the under dash fuse block; if all else fails locating it; follow the clicking sound until you do. It just plugs in nothing to take apart. Now if this problem turns out to be the switch; I’m going to suggest allowing someone to do this for you. Not that it’s all that hard of a job, its not but you’ll have to deal with the air bag. That takes a bit of knowhow, along with safety precautions not to damage the system or hurt your self. By accidentally lighting off the air bag with your face right in the way of a five hundred pound punch. Side your butt across the seat (static electricity) and touch the wrong thing and out pops the air bag; all over and done in less then a second. Dan. Canadian "EH"

Before this began to happen, my wife moved the power seat all the way forward and got out of the car. She didn't know that the power seat button was stuck down in the forward position. The next time I came out to start the truck, the battery was dead and it had a big crack in it around the neg post, I could pull the post right off. Put in a new battery, couldn't start truck with remote, had to reset it. After I reset it, the truck started with the remote, but my head lights wouldn't blink after I started the truck or when I turned it off with the remote like it use to do. The headlights haven't blinked again ever since this happened. Thats when I began to heard the blinker relay clicking in cold weather. I replaced the relay, but it still does the same thing.

Just my 2 cents.. It almost sounds like the alarm relay is whats clicking...since you mentioned the lights don't flash when the remote is used anymore.....does the siren/horn, sound/chirp when remote is used...alarms will lose/change settings when batteries go dead.....can you stop the clicking with pushing the remote button?.. Just a thought ....

Yes, the alarm works and I get that chirping sound. My lights just don't blink anymore, and it sounds like the blinker is on all the time inside. I'm going to check if the blinking noise stops when I push the remote button. I'll keep you posted, Thanks..............
