Car starts WITHOUT key

I have recently acquired a 1993 Dodge Caravan, and just recently I noticed that, after turning off the engine and exiting the vehicle, it would ding at me as if my keys were still in the ignition. After poking my nose around and making sure nothing was turned on, etc., I was at a loss. Then I noticed that, without keys in the ignition, if I turned it it would start and be perfectly drivable. This isn't ok. It's been like this for several days, but the thing would be horrifically easy to steal, and I fear it might indicate a bigger problem. Any ideas?

Have the ignition cylinder lock replaced, they should be able to code the new lock to your original keys if they’re not too badly worn. Dan. Canadian "EH"
