1994 chevy s-10, 4.3L v6 4x4 automatic.

Ok so I've been having a problem which I believe is an electrical short? I get really bad fuel mileage, like 5mpg. The truck died while I was driving it around town, I was able to get it restarted. A mile later it died. It would still turn over and the lights were all still working. I brought it home the next day the battery had run completely down. I put a charger on to it but I couldn't get it to full charge. I went and got a new battery. Truck ran for 2 day died again while driving. The battery was completely drained by the time I towed it home. I did happen to get an obd reading on the truck it came back as 13 oxygen sensor circuit open.

  All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be test during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment.
If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money.



Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for.

These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause.

1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on.


2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injecter with the key on.


3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off.

Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out,
you will know which system is having the problem.

Looks like you have a couple of problems here.....1st lets get it started.......Charge the battery & see if it starts.....If it doesn't, then HT has posted the next step....If it does start the get a voltmeter and see what the voltage is when it's running....If it's in the 12v range while running then you have a charging system problem & we'll have to go from there....

Go charge the battery & see what you have after that
