Fan Air Blower Switch (Interior) Sign In

2001 Toyota Corolla - the fan air blower switch has been working intermittently and now does not work at all. No air blows at all. Removed the relay under the hood and put it back in to see if it was loose but that did not work.
One other strange thing - the switch has "off" 1, 2, 3, 4. When you turn the switch completely off the idling of the car lowers. Weird. Bad relay, bad fan or something else?

Thanks.

That's not weird. It's normal.

When you turn the blower switch to 0, it shuts off the AC compressor and the computer lowers the idle speed because of that.

You are going to have to do some testing using a test light that can read either power or ground. Start by going to the blower motor, unplug the connector and test for power and ground with the blower turned on. Depending what you find there will determine what we do next.

Thanks Hammer - you say use a test light - would a multimeter do the trick?

No, that won't tell you if you are receiving a ground signal or not.
Not just any test light. It has to be a two wire light that can identify a ground signal.
