The Cable that connects my negative battery terminal to the frame is bad and needs replaced. I feel like I am being jerked around a bit by the mechanic as they are telling me the only cable that will work is a special order from Jeep, it's several hundred dollars. Parts, labor, all in is being quoted about a grand. When I look at auto parts stores online they say these cables fit my Jeep and cost around $20. Has anyone used a universal cable like this? Also, can anyone tell me where on the frame it connects? Is this a situation that is requires the removal of several parts to access? Which would explain the price tag for the replacement of a two-foot cable? I am thinking I am going to get a new cable from the store and replace it myself if it's accessible.

I am assuming the reason it is so expensive is because it is likely bridled with other cables and they connected with multiple wires going to the cable end are all sold as one piece and far more labor to replace. Most newer cables are made that way now. I'm sure if the shop wanted to they could rig it up with just replacing a single cable but it wouldn't be the right way to fix this and most shops won't do that kind of patchwork. edit; I looked up the parts and labor and the negative cable sell for $91 and it's 1 hour labor to change it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
