My wife has a 99 Honda CRV, EX, 2.4L. Recently, we have had a few problems, mostly related to the clock. The clock reset recently, as if the battery had died. The next day, we started the car but the clock did not come on. About 5 minutes later, it came on, but the time was correct.
Today, she was driving home from work, which is about 5 miles. Suddenly, all systems shut down, except the radio. She was able to coast and get off the road. She turned off the radio and tried to start the vehicle, and it immediately restarted and she made it the rest of the way home. It was a hot day today, and she was driving with the windows down and A/C off. I checked the belts and they were ok. I went to the auto parts store and spoke with one of the guys there. He couldn't quite figure out what was wrong. I replaced the battery to be on the safe side, but the battery checked okay at the store.
My main concern is that this happens to her on a longer drive. What other things should I be looking at?

Do you have access to an OBD diagnostic tool? Neighbor?

I’m not sure if this is what’s wrong with you car but it might be worth looking into?

There’s a safety recall on a number of Hondas relating to the ignition switch contacts.

Quote
Worn out ignition contacts could cause the engine to stall without warning. Although the engine will restart in most cases, a vehicle that stalls while driving increases the risk of a crash

If you google "Honda safety recall #02-031" you should get a number of links about this.
You could also try calling your local dealer; give them the car’s VIN number and they should be able to check whether this car has had the recall done to it or not?

A safety recall doesn’t expire, regardless of the age of the vehicle, the number of owners it has had or mileage; it’s there forever. So don’t let a service adviser give you the bum’s rust when you talk to them about this.
If there is a record of a dealer doing this recall then you’re done; they don’t have to do it a second time; unless they are forced to put out a second recall.
The only thing is who’s too say your vehicle hasn’t burnt out a second switch?

Dan.

Re: Honda CRV shut off Sign In

Thanks for the information. I spoke with the Honda dealership and the recall was open on my wife's car. I have an appointment to take it in on next Thursday. Thanks for all of your help.
