Honda CRV shut off

My wife has a 99 Honda CRV, EX, 2.4L. Recently, we have had a few problems, mostly related to the clock. The clock reset recently, as if the battery had died. The next day, we started the car but the clock did not come on. About 5 minutes later, it came on, but the time was correct. Today, she was driving home from work, which is about 5 miles. Suddenly, all systems shut down, except the radio. She was able to coast and get off the road. She turned off the radio and tried to start the vehicle, and it immediately restarted and she made it the rest of the way home. It was a hot day today, and she was driving with the windows down and A/C off. I checked the belts and they were ok. I went to the auto parts store and spoke with one of the guys there. He couldn't quite figure out what was wrong. I replaced the battery to be on the safe side, but the battery checked okay at the store. My main concern is that this happens to her on a longer drive. What other things should I be looking at?

Do you have access to an OBD diagnostic tool? Neighbor?

Thanks for the information. I spoke with the Honda dealership and the recall was open on my wife's car. I have an appointment to take it in on next Thursday. Thanks for all of your help. Lee
