Ignition fuse keeps blowing on my 99 Plymouth breeze 2.4L when you try to crank it over. Any ideas on where to start?

Remove the starter motor relay. Put a new fuse in. Does the fuse blow when you attempt to crank the engine? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I removed the starter relay and tried to start car and fuse blew again

Pull the fuel pump relay and do the same thing. Hopefully you have a handful of fuses. Unless you have a short finder. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

This only blows the fuse when you have the key turned to start right? It won't blow the fuse in the run position? Is there any aftermarket equipment installed under the dash like a remote start system or alarm system? Is this automatic or manual transmission? That fuse protects the circuits for the fuel pump relay and starter motor relay on the load side. The fuse also protects the circuits through and after the ignition switch to the transmission control module, body control module, fuse 17, and the clutch pedal position switch (if applicable) The short is somewhere in a circuit after the ignition switch. Just have to isolate it. To do that you have to unplug each load one at a time to figure out if the short is inside a load or in a wiring to the load. The fuse blows when you turn the key to the start position, no aftermarket stuff , auto transmission.

Ok, if it only blows in the start position that eliminates the BCM and the circuit feeding fuse 17. Those two are powered on with the ignition switch in the start and run position. That leaves the wiring from the ignition switch to the transmission control module and starter motor relay or the transmission control module itself. You could unplug the transmission control module and then retry again. If it blows, it is in the wiring. If it is in the wiring, there is a connector called C126 you can unplug to isolate the short to which side of the wiring to look for the short. Inspect the wiring harness really good under there. Look for the harness rubbing on anything or rodents that may have been munching on the wiring. It has to be in the wiring somewhere (as long is this is fuse number 8 20 amp) There is a connector called C126. This will isolate which half if the circuit the short is hiding. Unplug the connector and retry another fuse. The location is underneath the driver's side of the dash. Disconnected it and car started , fuse didn't blow

That means there is a short in the wiring between connector 126 and the transmission control module connector. Your going to have to inspect every inch of that harness to see where it is shorting out. Inspect the harness from the connector under the dash and the harness to the transmission control module. I don't have a diagram of the harness routing, so your going to have to go in blind. Look for the obvious. Good luck. If it is still blowing with the connector 126 unplugged, the short is between the ignition switch and the connector 126. Same deal. Inspect the harness for chaffing to ground. You may have moved the harness around to where the short went away, so you might be close. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Just wanted to let you know that i never did find any wires that were chafed or bare but i must of moved something right because it has worked great since. At least now i know if it happens again where to look. Thanks for all the help
