Interesting Alternator Problem

I had a alternator (ls1 Aussie commodore) that was overcharging and the battery light was on. Assumed it was the regulator as I was getting over 15v charge - so changed the regulator with one I though was the correct one. Looked right, but once I recieved realised there is a conponant on my old one that isnt on my new one - good news is it doesnt look to be overcharging any more (13.5v) , but the battery light is still on. Im not sure what this componant is, its a small black box with the numbers 0. 5 and 3331 on it - looks like it could just be a big resistor? 130 kohm with the multimeter. It is between one leg of the regulator and the diode pack - I could unsolder is from the old one and insert in the new - but not sure if this is what could be making the charge light stay on. Any advice (I know pics would be handy) Cheers

Hey mate, The regulator you need for most holden commy's is VR-VT is an RE60 Regulator. Genuine bosch is usually the way to go on this as some companies have made replicas of the RE60's that just arent upto par. It may be doing the job now but it could be anything with the diodes or resisters playing up on aftermarket ones. There are 3 Wholesalers for the Genuine RE60 regulators in OZ. Ashdowns, Ingrams or JAS oceania. If you live close by to any of these guys I would go and replace the one you just bought with a genuine one. Unless your Commy is not between VR-VT. Lemme know.
