LED Lights Repeating to quick Sign In

HI,

Just installed some Hella Truck LED's on the back of my flatdeck ute, (made a custom tray for it) and the led lights work fine and the indicators repeat at normal speed when the car is off but when the ute is running the idicators flash like no tomorrow and the left side goes faster than the right but both are going way to fast.

Any help would be good.

Thanks

Re: LED Lights Repeating to quick Sign In

LED lights take very little current flow to light compared to a regular bulb and the flasher unit is designed to flash at a “normal speed” at a certain amount of current flow.
Why they flash faster with the engine running is that the alternator is keeping the battery at a full charge; this one or two extra volt will speed up any electrical device. Have a listen to your heater fan set on high with the engine off and then with it running, it’ll be faster with the engine running. The same thing is happening with the flasher unit.
Why the difference between left and right; there must be a little higher resistance in the circuit on the slower side; what who knows without going at the whole circuit inch by inch with an ohmmeter?
One of two cures for the fast flashing lights; add more lights or try and find an electronic flasher that uses a timer rather then a by-metallic spring to flash the light.
If this is an older truck that uses the round two-terminal flasher then the Tridon HD12 or its equivalent flasher will cure the problem. If the flasher in the truck is the five-terminal square combination turn/hazard flasher, I’m not sure if anyone has come out with an electronic replacement yet?
Dan.
