I have a mk2 golf 1.3. It came with 4 lights, so today im changed the grill to a two light version instead. there was a white cablebox thing with three tongs sticking out connecting to a blackbox. coming out of black box was a wire going into main head lights (at the end was a whitebox) and another wire going to the smaller light. I tried to use common sense and so I disconnected the whitebox from blackbox and connected it straight to the headlight. I assumed all this did was cut out the small light. I then turned on ignition and turned lights on and the front ones i replaced worked, but the back lights didnt go on. I then turned hazard lights on an nothing happened. I turned ignition OFF an put on hazard lights an the back lights started flashing. So it seems when my ignition turns on something shorts out. I then tried to start car and nothing happened, rev counter went up slighlty then fell. Please help :(

When messing with wires under the hood, it is quite critical to know what you are doing. Common sense sometimes doesnt make sense to the car. It could be anything mate, I don't think this one is a DIY. I would get a mobile auto electrician to come and have a look at it. He might dignose something you have not mentioned. Could be an earth problem also.
