I have a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE, 3.3L, 211,000 miles. My charging system has been acting up recently. Sometimes the digital mileage and the PRNDL readouts will start to flash very quickly. The ignition key lock cylinder is worn to the point that removing the key while it is in the on position is a common occurrence. It is also possible to remove the key in the acc. on position. Last night after unloading a bunch of stuff, I got in and tried to start the motor after it sat for a couple of hours. The battery was dead or so it seemed. I hooked up a battery charger to it to boost the battery to start it but it clicked rapidly and would not start. I figured the battery was too drained to start the motor so I took it out and put it on the charger. It started up right away after it was charged no problem. Unfortunately, something has gone awry in the system. The power door locks and the overhead lights only work when the ignition is on. The radio will not turn on at all. The keyless remote is now non functional. The panic button on the remote does not do anything either. The battery has proper voltage. The system has proper voltage while it's running. Everything else electrical is functioning. Is it possible I fried the PCM/voltage regulator with the battery charger boost? Could it be a problem with the ignition switch or lock cylinder? The vehicle is old and weary, torn up from heavy usage, and many, many things are failing to function. I do not know if it is worth trying to fix it. Unfortunately, it's the only transportation I have and cannot afford a new one.

That's always possible but I'm more suspicious of you leaving a wire off the battery or blew a fuse. Check it out a little closer. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Thanks for the reply. I checked all of the fuses with a meter and had continuity on every fuse. I will check the battery connections again. Something that I did fail to mention in the post, is an intermittent problem with the key/lock cylinder/switch. A few occasions in the recent past, upon turning the key to start the motor, nothing would happen. Moving the shifter to neutral and back, or trying to start it in neutral has done the trick. Unfortunately the problem continues.

If it was a fuse, they would not work at all. In this case, they work when the ignition is on, but does not when the ignition is off. Plus all the fuses are fine. I am thinking it must be the lock cylinder/ignition switch.
