Random stalling Sign In

Greetings Folks

OK so I have a 2003 Ford Taurus with 110 K on it. I know FORD, Fix or Repair Daly or Found on Road Dead. I can’t tell you how many times lately I’ve heard those lines.

Anyways, here is the situation. It started with random stalling when I would take my foot off of the gas. Sometimes I would hear it starting to stall and if I gunned the engine I could ride through it. It would start right up after but let me tell you, it would make life rather exciting when it would happen on the highway. The stalling would continue for a little while, stop for months on end then randomly happen again. I found no correlation with how hot the engine was or the weather or time of year. There are no codes showing up and a couple of mechanics have been stumped by this one.

Recently things have gotten much worse. Over the weekend it stalled out and would not restart. When I tried to restart I didn’t hear a sound, all electrics were out, and even the dome light didn’t work. I did however hear the relays in the fuse box clicking away. After an expensive tow home I figured I would try a few things.

I thought that maybe the fuse box got wet or a connection was bad. I disconnected and reconnected all of the fuse box plugs and while I was at it I ran a new ground from the battery to the frame, cleaned up the battery terminals and checked the battery voltage.

Miracles of miracles the car started after this work but then things got really interesting. I have several electrical problems. The following electrical parts no longer work:
Dome light, power windows, power seats, power side mirrors, trunk release, transmition indicator (the lights on the dash that tell you which gear you’re in) and the sensor that tells the car that the brake is engaged so I can shift out of park. When I try to use some of these electronics I can hear the relays clicking away. I’ve tried replacing the relays with no luck. I checked all of the other lights and electrics and they all work including the glove compartment light.

Any ideas guys, or should I find someone with a catapult and see how far the bull can fly??

Thanks

It's easier to just push it off a cliffWink Just kidding of course. The ground to body seemed to help. How about checking battery ground at engine and add ground engine to body strap? There could be some hidden ones broken somewhere - just a guess and something to try before the catapult trick,
