Reduced power message Sign In

Alright Guys!

I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500, 4.8L, 4WD! I recently replaced a transmission! After reconnecting all clips and connectors, hooked up battery, got reduced engine power message! Left batt on charger overnight, come out in morning, started right up, no issues! Went through all processes such as radio, a/c, and all that! Noticed that one headlight was dimmer than the other! Tried to turn on high beams, and truck shut off! Now the actuall high setting doesn't work at all, and when I pull back to quick activate the highs, the truck dies, and if I turn my headlights to the on position, the reduced engine power message comes on! Reset it with reader, and took it for a drive! No speedometer reading, and the transmission will not shift gears at all! I can go through them manually, but not in D! I have checked the grounds to the back of each head, and have checked all connectors to see if there were any loose! Nothing! Can someone help me here! When I run the scanner, it comes back with the 1518 code! Leads to the TAC every time??

Go back over your work and double check everything, especially any ground wires that you could have left off.

Okay! Found another ground I had left off! It was hiding behind the monifold! That takes care of the TAC/Headlight issue! Now my problem is the speedo doesnt work, the transmission won't shift up, and on recent test drive, Transmission acted as if it wasn't keeping up with engine! Almost like it would play catch up with the RPM'S! Any thoughts on that issue??

See if the speed sensor is plugged in.

I am trying to locate it! I dont see what is shown in any pictures, and there are no open ports where there should be a sensor! I am still researching to see where it is in my truck??

Should be in the tailshaft on the driver's side.

Does that include the 4x4 version! I have searched both the old transmission, and the replacement! I am not finding this sensor on either one!

Found it! It is on the back side of the transfer case! It is plugged in! I am trying to figure out if there is a ground for it that isn't connected somewhere! I have three ground leads so far that I have to connect! I have tested them all and they all fixed every problem but that one! Do you know if there is a separate ground wire for that specific Sensor?

Re: Reduced power message Sign In

If that is a different transfer case, it may have a bad speed sensor.

Nope! Same transfer case that came out of it! I may change it out and see what happens! Tomorrow I am going to do solid connections on all of the grounds and see if that changes anything!

Re: Reduced power message Sign In

Okay! I am getting power to the harness where it meets the transfer case, and upon checking the connectors for the speed sensor, I am not getting and avtivity from them as far as power goes! I am pretty sure there is a power port on the connectors? I found the ground connections for each of these at the frame, and they are connected solid! I am at a loss! I have checked, rechecked, and double checked to see if I missed a ground somewhere, and just can't find one! Any other suggestions?

Okay! Replaced the Speed sensor, and still nothing??? At a loss right now! And now my ABS light is on, but the fuse is good! When I pull the fuse, the light stays on! Put the fuse back in, the light goes out for a second, and then back on again! Just checked it out! Does this help any??

Unplug the transmission electrical connector. With the ignition on check for battery voltage on the pink wire terminal in the connector.

Just curious, but why did you replace the transmission?

Re: Reduced power message Sign In

I replaced Transmission because I lost third gear in the origional! And with 170,000 on it, I figured what the heck! I will get a voltage meter and check, and let you know tomorrow!
