Stalls at idle Sign In

2002 Dodge Ram Van, 2500, 5.2L. Had a bad alternator, replaced it but still have a weak battery. After two weeks I had to jump it and it won't run at idle

Re: Stalls at idle Sign In

Think of battery and alternators as dependent on each other and can kill each other too.

Why are you jumping it? Test battery when charged by a charger and don't count on the alternator if it's too low to start up it working it too hard.

Test charging system is up to par. Can check with just a DVOM or plain voltmeter.

Probably by description your battery gets so low for a reason not known right now it's resetting memory (?) that it learned to hold an idle. Cleaning at throttle body and IAC may help but till this doesn't need jumping to start you may not know for sure what else.

Code reading could help. Get one anyway and post #s and my guess if nothing in it's memory it's resetting all the time,

Re: Stalls at idle Sign In

scan the vehicle - yes even if the CEL is off...

As tom said - both the battery and charging system should be checked...

The PCM monitors and controls the charging system.
