Strange electrics on peugeot

Strange electrics on peugeot Sign In

I recently bought an old 1998 Peugeot 206 as a cheap runabout for my wife. The car was running fine until I drove it to work the other day the front windscreen wipers
and electric windows both stopped working. When I arrived at work I realised that the central locking was also not working, although when pressing the key fib the indicators still flash but when locking on the key it still does not work.
All the fuses and relays seem to be intact . Is there anything electrical that these problems have in common or are they all separate issues.
All seems a bit strange ??

Just what does "seem intact" mean? Just being in place doesn't mean they are working or operational. I don't know this car basically at all US based site still doesn't totally matter. Tap on relays see if there's a change or feel one known to be the one you can feel them click inside unseen or not. That would be suspect.
At the age now would also be checking grounding of items meaning there are wires or item that put negative battery to metal items. Near universal the battery to engine block then block to body metal. It's done again and again for parts that move or separate from common body metal works as the acting "ground" also called "earth" electrically.
Not the point totally and no disrespect ever but hear the "British" like use of some of your words same language different use of which words,

As Tom said, we don't have any technical info on this model but it has all the symptoms of a Body module failure. You are going to need a professional scan tool to do a full system scan to see if any modules aren't reporting.

Hi and thanks for your speedy replies.
The only fault code showing on the car
is P0302 which I understand relates to
an engine misfire on no2 cylinder and
not actually an electrical issue. I
am going to have a look at the main
earth from the battery later today as it
does seem very corroded and battered.
If this is the issue then wouldn’t the rest
of the electrics be playing up also ?

Will post my findings later today.

Yes to cleaning up terminals. Do know any passwords or procedures for things that may disable this vehicle first! Another always makes sense is remove negative battery terminal first, do what you are going to do and that goes on LAST such that you don't short an item or tool at the battery with positive side. Battery is marked, look for it and be sure.
Wire brush (goggles please it's acidic!) clean up or declare it's rotted. Use "electric" grease really helps stop the corrosion. Check age of battery and hold-down parts that they are operational and do lube items so they will not break when and if a new one is needed save a lot of grief. If busting it now a product here called PB or "Power Blaster" can really help remove very stuck nuts and bolts.
Cheap here to have a "trickle" or slow but automatic battery charger that shuts off when finished some can take a whole day read what you may buy how that one works.
It's basic, battery at a full charge or testing much of anything isn't always going to show good results or information.
I beat on this: Know how old battery is they are marked. Don't push for super long life they are perishable items IMO is in doubt and over 4 years old replace with new. Mark them clearly with date it was new. Do know automotive batteries are NOT anything like ones used in devices that can discharge and recharge 100s of times without harm liquid lead (the metal) acid batteries do NOT like being dead (flat) showing zero voltage or even very low.


All that basics for a vehicle or machine that uses a battery to start it then self charges while running.
That's a great place to start and have out of the way may or may not solve all problems now but gives you something to work with or another if equipment is needed that's not practical to own or learn how to use for a one time fix.

No, not sufficient at all. That is merely a generic code reading of the engine module. Not what i am talking about.

There is a network of various modules that all communicate with each other and only a professional level scan tool, is capable of accessing those modules and even some of those aren't equipped for this particular make of car. This is not equipment you have access to.
