Suspected battery problem??? Sign In

Hi,
I've been having some trouble with my car and was wondering if someone here could offer some advice before I spend money having a mechanic look at it.
Its a 2000 Nissan pulsar and I hadn't driven it for a few weeks and it wouldn't start.
I suspected a flat battery so i hooked up the portable jump starter and it started fine. Then I charged up the battery at home and tried to start it again but no luck. So I hooked up the multimeter to the battery and it read 12.58V (seems fine to me).
I did notice at one point a small amount of smoke coming from the positive terminal of the battery and a definite smell of hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg).
It seems to start fine when I put the jump starter on it but not with the battery alone (which should be full). My question is, does this mean the battery is stuffed or could there be a problem with the starter motor? Should I just buy a new battery or is it worth having someone look at it?

thanks for any insight.

Bring the battery to an auto parts store most of them will be able to charge and load test your battery make sure it's working to its full capacity.

if your smelling a rotten smellfrom the battery chances are your battery has a bad cell in it.
