I have a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. Went to a friend's house and when we were leaving...Stuck the plastic funky looking key in the ignition and nothing happened. So we hooked up a set of jumper cables and charged the battery for a half hour. Turned the key...Nothing. No dash lights, no oil and brake light-(like what flashes on the dash when you first crank it up)-Nothing. But! Headlights are bright as ever, interior light works and door chime still screams. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS GOOFY VAN? Is it a fuse? Does it have an electronic ignition? Is the ignition itself gone bad? H-E-L-P!!!!

If I was going to venture to gusse I would image it's programming issue with your key/fob or key reciver. You will probably have to take it to a dealership and have it put on a scanner to see what is going on.

I feel like complete moron right now. I went and got the other key, right? Tried it out and the van fired right up. Go figure? I still don't understand how the one key can lock the doors, unlock the doors, and even work the panic button but will not start the van...???...How does that happen? I'm just glad it works just fine and it was simply a bad key all along.

If it's any thing like the ford intergrated fob/key they are 2 components built into 1.. There will be fob part and a chip for the key part of it one is read by BCM and the key part is read by PCM. So it's possible the key loose it programming and fob part still work.

Isn't the plastic key supposed to be used to make new keys? I'd be afraid it would break off in the lock cylinder. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
