Iseki tractor - TM3200 (2007) - 3 cylinder diesel. Battery is not being charged. Output from alternator measured at 0.57 volts. Was recommended to replace bridge rectifier in alternator - not a big job, easily accomplished. During repair brushes were checked - all looks well. However, after re-installation output voltage still c. 0.55 volts. Question : is a defunct alternator a certainty or is there something else that could possibly be at fault? NB All fuses are intact. Thanks for any advice or tips

Do you have a wiring schematic for the charging system on this tractor? This is an automotive forum and don't dabble in tractors, but may be able to help you figure out your issue if you could provide a schematic.

Did you check for charging voltage at the battery terminals and got those readings? If so, what is the voltage at the output lug of the alternator with the engine running?

Thanks DiscreteSignals. I know this is not a tractor forum, but I figured that alternators must charge batteries in the same way as for autos. No - I received minimal documentation when I bought the tractor (new) in 2007.

The voltages that I gave - 0.57 v approx - were both measured at the output lug from the alternator diode bridge, but with the cable still connected. When I have recharged the battery I will start up again and measure the output when it is open (i.e cable disconnected).

If this tractor has sensitive electronics, you shouldn't disconnect the battery or cable with the alternator running. Possible voltage spike can occur and damage your electronics.

You don't need to disconnect it. Just take your volt meter and measure at the output lug. Make sure that your battery tests good and is fully charged.

The problem is without a wiring schematic it is difficult to tell what kind of alternator this has and what is required to make it operate. Some of them are computer controlled.

A neighbour with a similar tractor showed me that there are two 40 amp fuses -quite separately located from all the other fuses, and one of these was found to be blown.

So thanks to Discretesignals and anyone else who may have read and thought about how to help.
