VW Beetle Electric Problem Sign In

Evening everyone.
I have a problem with my 1972 VW Beetle electrics !
When the ignition is off and the brake pedal is pressed the oil light comes on. When the engine is running the oil light stays on all the time, but goes off when the brake pedal is pressed. It's a bit of a head scratcher. Has anyone got any suggestions please.
I have already fitted a new earth strap to the gearbox and checked all other earth connections

What the hell is an earth strap? I think you need to be looking through your grounds and also checking your gauges and sending units. If this is factory wiring, its had 42 years of the weather to eat at it.

Earth strip = ground wire
