Vauxhall Zafira MPV 7 seater 1.6 127000miles Sign In

Hi & Hello
I have a Vauxhall Zafira. 1.6 Astra engine, 2004 year the rad/fan resistor has gone and I see a Meriva one that has the same connects two large and two small in the middle however the resistor on top is completely different.
Mine is two metal springs across and a resistor in the middle across.
All other resistor packs are 3 pin only, I Have a puller fan but none in stock anywhere, anyone know if it would it be wise to risk the 40 pounds and try the Meriva one as it has same connections and is a resistor pack, or am I silly, with no breaking spares around either, anyone got any ideas. thanks for your time and attention.

We can't be any help to you as we are US based and that car is not sold here so we have no info on it.

You first need to know how this system is wired and then you need to know what the resistance of the original resister was. The logical solution is to just buy a whole replacement fan assembly with the resister included.

Wild guessing as Hammer said this US site doesn't have these to know much about. General then. You see a part that isn't right and seem to know it.

Next is why did it go if for fans? I'd see if the fans spin with everything off (cold engine some kick on without keys or being there) USE A stick not your hand. If not the motor was the cause IMO.

Parts a problem sometimes to be exact and should be. Perhaps used whole assembly of identical set up would be worth it. 3 fans? OK, they did that for important reasons, all should work when needed so at risk of serious damage you knew that I hope.

This stuff is too important try to seek out whole units but would see if one fan motor caused the issue as I said check at least that trick,

Tom

Those resisters are used for low speed in a two speed system so they are carrying current almost constantly so they do burn out quite often just from constant use. I doubt there is any other problem.

I would advise against driving it that way as you are relying on the high speed only which won't kick on until temps reach 230F or higher.

In a pinch you could temporarily just connect the wires together and you will replace low speed operation with high speed. This is not ideal but it's better than running it hot.

I was think what if the fan motor is/was a dead short? Was too hot and seized up would mess up the show, Tom

Not likely. These resisters burn out all the time from extended use.
