What is this electrical piece? Sign In

Hope I'm in the right place...

I have a 1993 Nissan Hardbody pickup truck (V6). Had a short behind the fusebox and burned a few wires all the way across the dash. Now I'm in the middle of replacing burned-up wiring.

One burned all the way to what I'd call a "jumper box". Here's the photos:

The wire burned all the way into the connector at that box. Problem is, I have no idea how to order a new box. Looking at the cover, it seems as though this "box" just connects wires together. But then I start thinking it might be some sort of relay, so just cutting the connecting wire with the new wire might not be such a good idea.

Can anyone tell me what this box is or does? Should I find a way to get a new one? Or can I just splice a replacement wire to whatever the old wire connected to?

ANY advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Jason

I do believe your correct that it is a jumper connector. That can't be a relay because there are too many wires and it would be a lot taller.

It may have been a connector for an option that isn't installed in your truck, so they installed a jumper cover to keep the circuits complete.

You could cut the bare wire off a few inches from the back of the connector. Then solder another wire to it. Slide heat shrink over the joint and the bare wire. You could have corrosion issues though.

Another option is to find another Nissan in the salvage yard and look for a connector with the same style terminals. I'd cut the whole salvaged connector off with as much wire hanging off as possible. Then remove the terminal from the salvage yard connector and swap it out with the one in the truck's connector. Then all you have to do is make a splice.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Hey, thanks for that!

In the end I just cut the two wires and used a barrel connector, a temporary fix.

Now I'm on to the next problem...
