Wipers won't turn off!

I have a 1998 Honda Civic EX, with 128,000 miles, and manual transmission. My windshield wipers are always on! It started when every 20 to 30 minutes it would just automatically go across my windshield once, but now they're always on! I tried using the wiper fluid, and at first that triggered them to start then stop, but now they won't turn off. Any suggestions? Or do you know how much this will cost if I have to take it in? Thanks!!

This could be one of two problems. Could be the wiper switch or the wiper motor. From the history you mentioned, I'm leaning towards the switch being the problem. You can determine which by using a test light at the connector at the motor. If the switch sends proper signals to the motor, then obviously it will be the motor. If you get constant power to the motor regardless of switch position, then the switch is going to be the problem. Fuse #26 is for the wiper/washer. Until you have the time to do this, you can pull that fuse to stop the motor, or just leave the connector unplugged. If the wipers continue to operate on a dry windshield, it will end up burning up the motor. Loren SW Washington
