alternator conversion Sign In

have a 1965 ford i want to convert from a alternator with a external regulator to a one wirg internal regulator. is there a wiring chart for this..thanks james

Waste of time and effort. Just use the one on the firewall and be happy. You can even adjust those - WOW new technology fails in comparison........

Yes they make a one wire conversion.I would stay with the stock VR and upgrade to a mid '70's 100A alt. to handle driving lights, stereo, amp, AC, You won't have to worry about pulling too many amps. Also by installing relays to take the load off of the headlight switch for the headlights & driving lights you will get brighter lights . The 100A is a little larger than the stock one but fits with all the same bolts/brackets. Some of the 1 wire don't charge until the engine gets rev'd past ~1500-2K rpm

Here is something that ran into for old Mustangs and being about to convert to a 3G alternator.

Too funny RT. Just leave it alone. The origs lasted a million miles so what is anyone gaining? You could even take them apart and with some sandpaper clean up the points and get another million miles! -- T

It's amazing what you can find on the internet. Wink

The only thing I see that is kind of iffy is how close the output lug is to the valve cover in that pic. Wouldn't be a good idea to be removing the valve cover with the battery connected. There is probably is a better way to insulate that.
