There's obviously a drain when the car is off but before you go hunting too hard for that check the main plug to the alternator of the car's original harness. May not be like a couple in the vintage I have dealt with but that plug didn't tolerate heat well and caused problems. Some alt failures cause an overcharge and really burn that up. If it look lousy and like what I think there is an aftermarket plug end available for splicing in nicely with solder waiting in the splice and shrink tube to properly cover it and it solved a couple of those problems nicely. If you are just jumping this and going on for the day it will kill your new alternator to work that hard, T
