Re: brake controller wiring Sign In

The different manufactures of these controllers have different ways they want them wired in.
All I can say at this point is follow their directions that came with the unit and if you need help identifying a particular circuit on the Yukon or a more specific question, I’ll try and help.

Re: brake controller wiring Sign In

thanks for your help dan and anyone else that wants to chime in. the specific question i have is. im going to be using a tekonsha prodigy. theres a red wire coming out of the unit, they(tekonsha) says it is stoplight, that im supposed to connect to the stoplight switch-connect to cold side(voltage only when pedal is pushed). thats directly off of there general wiring diagram. but what wire im i supposed to connect it to in my car. theres a wire harness attached to the top of the brake petal maked A B C D E F. A-White, B-Orange, C-Purple, D-Brown, E-Light Green, F-Dark Green. i assume one of those wires is where its supposed to attached but i dont know which one. you can see the general wiring diagram at www.tekonsha.com/instructions/BC%20Wiring.pdf or at www.tekonsha.com then click on prodigy then wiring diagrams thanks for all the help

I believe it’ll be the white wire that you want for that, to confirm whether I’m right is to get a test light and clip it to a known good ground and then probe the white wire while you apply the brake peddle. The test light, should light when brake is applied and go out when released.

Re: brake controller wiring Sign In

If you’re at the actual brake light switch then it should be the white wire. By chance did you check that the test light was connected to a good ground by checking it on something you know has power. Try going to the fuse panel and see if it will light up on anyone of the fuses. You could also add a length of jumper wire to the clip end of the test light and go right to the battery negative terminal.
You should at least have power on the orange wire it’s the feed from the fuse.
Here’s a wiring diagram it should be the proper one. (I hope)
In this diagram it shows the brake light switch at the top of the page and only having two wires an orange one that is the feed from the fuse and the white which will have power on it with the pedal applied.
The actual switch will have more wires then what’s shown on this diagram, but this diagram only deals with the brake lights and not all the other functions of the switch.
If you notice the schematic of the switch it has a dotted line around it, that means that there is more to the switch, but it would be to difficult to decipher if this diagram would show all of it.

PS: if you want this diagram maybe copy it to a file, the site that’s hosting it has every limited space and I may have to delete it after a couple of days.
