1997 Ford Escort wagon bought used three years ago with 2.0 engine and 97,000 miles give or take. Dome light never worked from door switches but manually worked. Alarms for key in ignition and headlights on only worked when tailgate was opened. But when it got REALLY cold here in Minnesota winter these alarms came to life when other doors were opened!! For most of the time I have had the car, the service engine light and check coolant light have routinely been on. (My mechanic shrugged his shoulders and assured me there was nothing wrong in the engine systems.) And NOW---the front parking lights and dashboard illumination go on when I hit the brake pedal, the tailgate brake light goes on when I turn on the headlights, and the cruise control stopped working. And yet the auto runs beautifully and gets great gas mileage all the time. What do I need to replace??? What troubleshooting steps, if any, do I need to take?? Thanx

>>You got to be kidding........ Your car has a series of issues that need to be tackled one at a time and by somebody a bit more qualified than the guy that is working on it now. All these issues can be systematically tracked down but it doesn't appear this guy is qualified to do that. << Couldn't agree more! Loren SW Washington

Is "MY MECHANIC " a mechanic at a shop . Or is he a neighbor with wrenches. Look for shops that have certified techs and displaying a sign like the one Hammer has . You may pay a little more but we dont shrug. LIFE'S SHORT GO FISH
