dash e-brake light

I have a 1997 Escort and the barke light was turning on and off and then finally stayed on. This is over a period of a few days, maybe a week. I checked out the switch and noticed it's only a single wire that connects to ground once the lever is lifted enough to make contact with chassis. I measured the wire to ground and it's grounded, hence the light staying on. Is there anything else in the circuit that could cause this and does the wire go to the computer first?

How much fluid is in the master cylinder? If the fluid level is low, the light will also turn on. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds
