The first step is stop taking advice from that guy. You need a high end scan tool with Euro software to read the stored codes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

The battery that was in your Dad's truck probably isn't the right application for your VW. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Which size engine? Also need the three digit engine code that is stamped where the engine and transmission meet. It will be either AEG, AVH, AZG, AWD, or AWW. Normally the EPC light is on when there is a malfunction in the electronic throttle control system. You will probably need a dealer level or equivalent scan tool to see what is going on. It is also possible the throttle adapt was lost when the battery was disconnected. There is a relearn procedure, but you'll need the same type of scan tool to initiate the procedure. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
