Hello, I have a 1992 mitsubishi Eclipse stick that has a mind of its own. I went to crank it up one day and it wouldn't even turn over. i spoke with a mechanic and he told me to hit the starter a few times. after i hitt the starter it fired right up. I put it into reverse and it shut right off. It lost all battery power. i got out and messed with the starter again and it crunk up again. i drove it to take the trash off it when i turned on my bright lights the battery sounded like it was dyin down then i switch to dims and it sounded fine. when my rpms are low or i just slow down my car trys to shut off. The battery still goes on and off when it wants to. I dont even have to mess with it for it to come back on. I dont have the money to pay a mechanic to look at it. Tell me what you think it may be. Thanks.

If you can get a good look where pos battery cable goes to starter take a good look. Corroded by eye? Could still be a poor connection there or not letting enough power thru?? IF DIYing this have the neg off battery if you clean that up there. That tap trick generally is and works many times for sticky or poor contacts with brushes in the starter but this time I don't think that was it but rather the main feed wire, T
