engine won't shut off Sign In

1999 town and country 3.8
I'm serious. You turn the key off and the van continues to run. I replaced the ignition switch and the computer already. no change. It's not dieseling. The van works flawlessly otherwise. ignition works properly in run, start, acc. All gauges and lights power down when off except engine continues to run with service engine light on only when ignition is in off position. code reader finds 0 codes. When the engine is not turning and key is in off position the service engine light stays on and the automatic shutdown relay clicks and the battery drains. I'm stumped. any insight would be appreciated. no bad fuses or relays either. there is another relay that clicks on and off too; somewhere below exhaust manifold by the transmission. despite the irony of this, it is beginning to not be that funny any more. maybe a want ad to sell could read... runs and drives perfect just won't shut off . runs too good. haha not funny!Frown

Does the engine shut off when you pull the auto shut down (ASD) reply?
If not you'll have to find the short to power on the dark green with orange tracer wire.
This wire is powered by the ASD when the relay is turned on. This Dr Gr/Or wire also feeds a number of other devices along with the ECM (computer); alternator field, ignition coil, O2 heaters and the fuel injectors. So you can check for power at any of these devices with the ASD removed; there should not be any.
Let us know what you find?

Dan.

engine shuts off when ASD is removed. Battery continues to drain and other relays click on and off.
I'm now looking for electrical current where it shouldn't be.
thanks.

You're going to have to probe that socket with an LED testlight that reads either power or ground to see if that relay is receiving triggering signals that is shouldn't be or if the relay itself is just stuck on.
