I am trying to repair my own ford 1989 escort. My problem is that the brake lights do not work. I have replace both bulbs and all 15 amp fuses. I think the porblem may be a switch on the brake peddle. I don't know how to remove the "under dash panel". My information comes from Haynes "Ford Escort and Mercury Lynx", ISBN: 1-56392-004-2. Would appreciate any help. Thanks http://autoforums.Car Junky.com/cgi-bin/gforum.cgi?do=user_signup;guest=76001&t=search_engine

A silly test light can check the switch. Wires may have come out! I don't know your car specifiacally but almost all Fords used a switch at the brake lever - VERY important to install right as replacing it disconnects the pedal!! The panel comes out with Phillips and or Zip buttons that they make a tool to pull out. If you don't really care about this cosmetic panel, vise grips can yank them out. Whatever you do - put the brake pedal back right! Good luck with the fix, Tom
