fuse blows immediately upon replacement

Hi. I have a 1989 Lincoln Mark VII. It had been sitting for months, and when a potential buyer took it for a spin, he came back complaining that something was burning. The smoke (and burning electrical smell) seemed to be coming from the side-view mirrors switch (which is located in the center console). That the smoke would originate from there makes sense to me, as the switch seemed to be glitchy in the past. After that incident, we found that the radio, interior lights, and keyless entry stopped working. These are all on the same fuse. But when I attempt to replace the fuse, it pops immediately. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this? Thanks in advance for your time and expertise. -Nikolaus

Unplug the window switch that was smoking and see if it still blows the fuse. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Thank you very much for the quick reply. It was actually the mirror switch that was smoking. Is there a way to isolate that wire without tearing apart the console? Thanks again.

Opened up the console and found it easy enough. Turns out that unplugging the switch did the trick. Thank you sir. You are a god among men.
