headlight replacement Sign In

hey guys. don't want to sound like an idiot here...but how the hell do you replace the bulb in the headlight on a 2004 jeep grand Cherokee limited. there is one long bolt on top, and another star bit bolt that holds the headlight assembly to the grill. I took each off and have very little movement. certainly not enough to replace the bulb. I don't want to snap anything. im sure its simple.

Appears that you have removed the long torx jack screw (step 1). Probably a couple of retainer pins holding it in.

here is the rest of the procedure:

2. Grasp upper inboard and lower outboard corners of headlamp and pull headlamp outward.
3. Remove all of the bulb sockets from headlamp module.
4. Separate the headlamp from vehicle.

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Do not touch the bulb glass with fingers or other oily surfaces. Reduced bulb life will result.

1. Install all of the bulb sockets in headlamp module.
2. Position the headlamp on the vehicle and align the ball studs with the sockets.
3. Push the headlamp inward to secure the ball studs with the sockets.
4. Install the jack screw attaching the top of headlamp to the headlamp mounting module.

  3. Separate the headlamp from vehicle.

Note: It has a ball in a socket type holder on the outside edge. Pry it out with something plastic.
