1999 GMC Savana. I purchased this car years ago and has done me well. When I first got it, the headlights would come on with the ignition. I tried pulling fuses.... blah blah. I couldn't fix it. Then it went away... for years. Last month the lights started coming on again. The only activity between then and now was battery work. I installed a battery cutout (for camping configurations - use the aux battery and not the car's battery) After an irritating month lights on ignition, it went away. I did nothing. Any ideas what's going on? Is there a secret option I tickled? One thing to mention is that the column electrical ignition switch seems to fail to cut the aux power sometimes (I assuming it the switch body). I pulled the radios until I have time to replace it... if that is indeed what it is. Thank you

Are you sure it's not just Daytime running lights? Are the dash lights illuminating also? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

No, just the headlights. When you actually purposely turn on the headlights they become subtilely brighter.

I'm looking at the shop manual and found a reference to the DRL system, supposedly on export models. I guess mine may be Canadian? Any how, it looks like I can just pull the DRL relay and end this. It, or some other system part, must have been intermittent. Wish me luck. Thanks for the info.

DRL is mandatory in Canada so if it was built there it will have them. I think they were standard in all GMs around those years. I had a 98 Blazer that had them. If you apply the parking brake just enough to turn the brake light on, they should go off.
