mercedes A140 yr 2000 nonstarter Sign In

My mercedes wont start, I had the front spring replaced, drove it home, it ran rough like the plugs needed replacing. Then went i went back out to it, it wouldn't start.
Battery has been checked and starter, both seem ok, have disconnected the battery for a while then reconnected it, still nothing. I cannot afford a huge repair bill at the moment. Has anyone got any ideas
Does anyone know if these cars have a cut out switch and could that be it do you think?

Since you've just had some work done you should ask the shop to take a look at it to see if something might have got disturbed when installing the springs....

Sometimes when work is done to a car something else can get damaged in the process BUT it doesn't mean they are automatically at fault. Other things can fail on a car when it's being work on thru no fault of the shop, it does happen...

If they caused the problem, they should take care of it...... If there is any doubt just get a 2nd opinion... If they did cause this type of problem....it would be pretty obvious...

Now the fans kick in when i turn the key but the engine still wont turn over.
Someone recommended i change the fan control unit to rectify this but has it got anything to do with the car not starting??????????
The guys that did the original work said it was purely mechanical, and they think this is electrical, i really am stuck!!!!

I can't either, but then I know not to own a Mercedes for that reason.

The number one reason for transmission failure on this car is because of low transmission fluid. When you had your springs changed some fluid might have came out if the axle was removed. hope i'm wrong. It would help to know if you have a manual or semi auto. I would check for any blown fuses.

Thankyou for your reply, it is a manual gearbox,
will check transmission fluid
Have checked the fuses, all seem fine
If you put the starter wire on the battery it will crank but not start
If you turn the key it wont start, I'm starting to think either the ecu has gone
or maybe something is wrong with the immobilser
Is the red alarm light supposed to still flash when the key is turned to position 2????

This car is turning into an expensive garden ornament!!!

Ok so your starter is good the reason it didnt start is because you bypassed the ignition switch. A red light is never a good thing. I would rent an obd-2 scanner at your local auto parts store and check to see what it means.

Only bypassed ignition to see if car would still start at all,
which it did when bypassed but wouldn't when everything returned to place and trying off ignition
Is there a relay from ignition to ecu? if so can't find it
Have tried one fault finder on it but it wouldn't link
Have got someone comeing with another tommorow night
Please let it be something fixable!!!

Re: mercedes A140 yr 2000 nonstarter Sign In

Well I'm not a big Euro guy so can offer just some basic help..... What I would like to know is exactly when you started having problems. If it was in the parking lot when you picked up the car or this happened a little bit later after the work was done. If it was when you picked up the car then you should get under the hood & under the car and inspect all the wiring harness & ground connections, it's very possible something got disconnected or damaged...

Even having trouble right after the work was done doesn't mean they caused it but at the least you would've thought they would've noticed it, double checked their work and be able to tell you something....

I'm not really sure what you are doing with the ign sw but if you bypass it and the car runs good you may have a bad switch.....This can be an area of trouble for a lot of different makes....

If you mean code puller by fault finder, if would be a very good idea to pull the codes if the check engine light is on, this could help lead you to what area you should be looking at.....
