need help toset the timing

I have '99 chevy s-10 with the 4.3L vortex v6 and i just changed the intake gasket and can not get the distributor set so the engine will fire. The engine is turning over well and all plugs have fire and it still wont fire any suggestions?

Setting the timing on this model truck requires a scan tool. The manufacture requires 1 degree + or -. If you are of one tooth on the distributor it will throw the timing of about 30 degrees + or -. So it has to be correct. Turn the engine to TDC and then try to restab the distributor. Remember, you are also dealing with the oil pump rod at the bottom where the distributor goes in so you may have to work with it to get it correct. If you can get it close you should be able to drive it to a shop with a scan tool so the timing can be set. Good Luck. Jeff
