new distributor wiring help Sign In

I'm working on a 1959 chevrolet 1/2 toon pickup whith a 261 inline six cilinder engine. I am completely new to electrical and I need help.
It currently has the original points distributor, I purchased a conversion hei distributor from Langdon stovebolt, the instructions tell me to run a 10 guage wire from the ignition coil and to delete any resistors in the current set up; there is a ballast resistor on the fire wall, one end of the resistor has a green wire to a terminal on the ignition switch with another green wire on that same terminal from the ignition switch to the ignition coil, the other end of the resistor has a brown wire to another terminal on the ignition switch with a violet wire on that same terminal from the ignition switch to the starter,(there are also other wires in the picture but I believe they are irrelevant to the situation,) I need to use a new heavier 10 guage  wire from the coil to the ignition switch, would some one please explain exactly what I need to do: what wires I need to take out, what wires do I splice,  what wires go to what terminals, what the purposes of the different terminals actualy are ect...
I want to understand how it all works but I'm having a hard time
I really appreciate any help,
Thanks.
