turn signal problems Sign In

hello all,The problem I am having is that I put some led lights under my tail gate on my 2001 GMC Sierra 2500 HD. and they dont work when you use the left turn signal the whole bar lights and when you use the right signal nothing works when I first put them on htey worked fine but not anymore. Also when I use the turn signal and press the brake the indicator on the dash doesnt blink but if no brake is pressed the work fine. The cruise also didnt work a few times then it worked but if you used the blinker it would shut off the cruise. Now if all seems to work ok for now but not the led lights. sorry for the long post Any help would be appericated thanks truck has 100,000 miles and is a 6.0

Where did you wire them into?...what part of the harness...

A lot of times when electrical "freaks " out its because of a faulty ground...electricity will back feed and look for ground.

check your wiring/ground....did you use shrink wrap on the electrical connections?..how did you tap into the wires?...butt splices?
they need to be weatherproof if exposed ...

Like when you said the turn signal shuts off the cruise...the stop lamp circuit will do that ...press the brake, cruise shuts off..

Did you use a wiring diagram for "this" vehicle?...

Sorry for the questions....just trying to understand...and clear it up so we can help ....

They may be wired incorrectly, check back on your work, also you may have overload the flasher relays. Make sure you have the right one, You will need electronic flasher cans also as LED's vary in their load draw, this will adjust them. Try it and let me know.

wired into the tow harness. The cruise went off when you put the blinker on to change lanes. I used soderless connectors with shrink wrap right on them. I hard wired a 4 prong plug to the tow harness then pluged the led light into the 4 prong plug. Hope I answered your questions. Also the problem with the blinkers and cruise I have heard is proble caused by the multi-function switch which is the blinker lever that has blinkers, cruise,hi beam, wipers and wiper spray. just wondering if this could be caused by thsi switch or if something is connected wrong.

Well if your confident it's wired correctly.....

Yes then you could have a faulty multifunction switch....Lord knows Gm had a problem with these....all kinds of crazy stuff can happen when they fail...have seen loss of signals ,one side only....

look at this link....
